Why you have to study from Jaffna Campus Academy?

Is your child ready for college math?

உங்கள் குழந்தைகள் Calculus எடுக்க தயாரா?

Is your child ready for Calculus?

The ugly truth is "Many students aren’t ready".

A significant number of these students probably wound up taking remedial math once they got to college.
That means it is likely to take them longer and cost them more to get their college degrees.
Studies also show that they are at higher risk for dropping out of college altogether.

Your child needs math every year

Be sure your student takes algebra I and above — not business math, consumer math, or general math.

If your child took her first year of algebra in the seventh or eighth grade, she is likely to be able to fulfill

minimum admissions requirements for all but the most selective colleges by the end of her junior year.

The idea of taking a break from math in her senior year might sound pretty appealing.

Bad idea, say math professors and researchers.

“A year without math will make taking whatever math they have to take in college extremely difficult,” says a leading expert.

What about calculus?

Does every student need to take calculus?

One major study suggests that Advanced Placement (AP) calculus is excellent preparation for students who are ready for it.

But that doesn’t mean high school calculus is right for every student.

“Make sure they learn algebra and geometry before go to calculus".

Look for homework clues

Advice to parents trying to evaluate their students’ math instruction:

  • “If a student isn’t bringing home work that requires lots of manipulation and lots of word problems, then there is probably a problem,” he says.
  • “If the homework requires, instead, lots of making tables, then there is probably a problem.
  • If the work involves a lot of use of calculators there is probably a problem.”
  • “Calculators have their role,” he adds, “I would not want someone to go back to looking up log tables and trig tables,  but for things that don’t absolutely require a calculator, they should not use one.”

If you notice any of these questionable practices in your child’s math classroom,

you may want to express your concerns to our team to work out a package for your child to get prepared for the college math.

One other cautionary note: Beware of classes in which students are allowed to pass or

progress  because they complete extra credit rather than demonstrate through tests and

Classwork  that they understand the concepts.

Are all Caribbean Medical schools equivalent?

When you’re researching Caribbean medical schools, remember that they’re not all of equal quality or graduate success. To help you rank them and decide what school is best for you, we grouped them in three tiers based on approvals and accreditations. Find out how they stack up.

  • American University of Antigua
  • American University of the Caribbean
  • Saba University
  • St. George’s University
  • Ross University

These are the schools you should seriously consider. We may be a little biased putting AUA at the top of the list but we are one of the best, quantifiably. AUA, St. George’s, and Ross are the only three Caribbean medical schools that have approval by the New York State Education Department and the Florida Department of Education, recognition from the Medical Board of California, and accreditation from CAAM-HP. They are also approved to participate in the U.S. Federal Direct Loan Program (sometimes referred to as Title-IV). These schools also have thousands of alumni in residency or practicing throughout the U.S. and Canada – another testament to the quality of their education.

  • Medical University of the Americas
  • Spartan Health Sciences University
  • St. Matthews University
  • Xavier University

These medical schools have at least an accreditation or approval. MUA is New York approved and has Title-IV. However, St. Matthews is disapproved by the Medical Board of California but has New York approval. MUA and St. Matthews in particular have many graduates throughout the U.S. and Canada. Spartan and Xavier have provisional CAAM-HP accreditation.

  • American University of Barbados
  • Aureus University
  • Avalon University
  • Caribbean Medical University
  • St. James University
  • Trinity School of Medicine
  • University of Health Sciences Antigua
  • Windsor University

These schools have no state approvals or CAAM-HP accreditation and low residency placement rates. There are many more that aren’t included on this list because that would take up way too much space. If any of these schools are not listed in the top or middle tiers, it is best to do more research.

EXCLUSIVE: New Ontario math curriculum goes back to the basics(Published: :

Ford says they're taking education 'back-to-basics'(CityNews):

Education Reform in Ontario:

Elementary school students will go back to the basics when it comes to math, teachers can count on new training and parents should plan on receiving additional tools to help their kids with math homework.

This is all part of a major overhaul of Ontario’s failing math curriculum.

The full curriculum overhaul will be unveiled by Education Minister Lisa Thompson in coming days, but the strategy is laid out in documents obtained by the Toronto Sun.

“Discovery Math is gone, it has failed our children,” a senior government source said.

Instead of Discovery Math, a system proponents say “turns traditional math on its head,” schools in Ontario will return to tried and true methods.

Yes, rote learning will be part of it which means students memorizing the times tables once again, but the new math curriculum will also be aimed at helping students gain the skills they need for life.

“Whether it is coding, engineering or balancing their own budget, students need these skills,” a government official said.

For years, Ontario’s math curriculum has been a problem.
